Teacher role
Ted is a high school student and extremely intelligent with an IQ score on record of 146. Ted began the school year in a very positive manner with the hopes of preparing for an elite college. In class he quickly finished all assignments and you gave him extra assignments to challenge him. Recently Ted has slowed down considerably, has started talking to other students and causes disruptions. You decide to talk to him about this.

Student role - Ted
You are a high school student, extremely intelligent and enjoy learning. In English you quickly finished all the assignments the teacher gave you. Then the teacher would give you more "busy work". You have decide the work is not very exciting or is really necessary for getting into an elite college as you scored so high on your ACT and have been told you have it made. Therefore, you slowed down. You would rather do many other things than the teacher’s idea of "challenging college prep work". You believe if the teacher isn’t going to give you something you want to do, then you will just do what the rest of the class does.

Short term
- Agree with the student and work out an individual assignments based on the student’s interests.
- Punish the student for their behavior and tell them to get the work done.
- Use behavioral modification strategies with the student (Premeck principle, token economy, contract...)
Long term
- Work on assignments based on student’s interests.
- Discuss advanced placement with the principal and parents.
- Recommend placement in a gifted program.
