Audio Windows Directions
To Open Windows Media Player:
- Click ÒStart.Ó Move the mouse over ÒAll Programs,Ó ÒAccessories,Ó ÒEntertainment,Ó and a list of programs will appear, click ÒWindows Media Player.Ó
To listen to Radio Stations from around the world:
- Click ÒStart.Ó Move the mouse over ÒAll Programs,Ó ÒAccessories,Ó ÒEntertainment.Ó A list of programs will appear, click ÒWindows Media Player.Ó
- Click the ÒRadioÓ tab in the upper right of the screen. A list of radio stations will appear. Click the plus sign to the left of the desired music type or click the desired type of music to be listened to. A list of radio stations from around the world will be displayed. Double click the name of the desired radio station name.
- The radio station will begin to play. To start, stop, pause, skip to the next song, volume etc. use the control in the bottom left of the screen.
- To decrease the size of Windows Media Player, click ÒView,Ó ÒSkin Chooser.Ó A list of views will come up. Click a name on the left column of the screen to preview the view. When a view is chosen make sure the view is highlighted in blue. If not, click the name of the view. Then click ÒApply SkinÓ at the upper left of the screen. To return to normal view, click the button that says Òreturn to full mode.Ó (To find the correct button hold the mouse over each button until the correct button is located.)
Play Music from a CD:
- Open Windows Media Player. (see above) Insert a CD into the computer. A screen may come up with play button, stop button, etc. If so, use the buttons to play the CD. If not, click ÒPlayÓ at the top of the screen. Choose the desired command.
Copy CD onto computer (Rip):
- Open Windows Media Player. (see above) Insert a CD to be ripped into the driver.
- Click the ÒRipÓ tab towards the upper center of the screen. A list of songs on the CD will appear. There is a checkmark in the box to the left of every song. This means all the songs are selected will be Ripped. To deselect songs that arenÕt desired, click the box to the let of the song name to remove the checkmark.
- Click ÒRip MusicÓ in the upper right of the screen. The name of the song that is currently being imported to the computer will be highlighted in gray. When the song is imported, the green arrow to the left of the song name will be removed from the box.
- After a song is ripped it will be stored in the Library. It can also be accessed through ÒMy Music.Ó
Use My Music to Play a song that has been imported:
- Open My Music by clicking on ÒStartÓ and then ÒMy Music.Ó
- Use the scroll bar to move up and down to view all the folders. These folders are automatically created and named after the band when a CD is Ripped.
- Double click the desired folder. All the albums that have been imported by that band will appear. Double click the desired CD and a list of songs on that CD will appear. Double Click the desired song to be heard or click ÒPlay AllÓ in the left hand column.
Use Windows Media Player to Play a song that has been imported:
- Open Windows Media Player (see above) and click the ÒLibraryÓ tab. A list of songs that have been downloaded from the internet or Ripped from a CD will display.
- Double Click the desired song to be heard. After the song finishes playing, the next song in the Library will automatically play.
- Click the various tabs such as Title, Artist, Album, etc. to organize the songs in different ways. To rate a song, click the star that coordinates with the desired rating. 1 star is worst, 5 stars is best.
Create a Playlist:
- Click ÒNow Playing ListÓ at the right of the screen, ÒNew List,Ó and ÒPlay List.Ó
- Add songs to the playlist clicking a song and holding down the mouse button. Drag the song to the playlist column on the right of the screen and release the mouse button. The song will be added to the playlist. OR Click the desired song and click the green plus sign to the left of ÒNew PlaylistÓ to remove a song from the playlist, right click the name of the song. Click ÒRemove from list.Ó
- Click ÒNew PlaylistÓ and ÒSave Playlist As.Ó Click in the File Name box and type a name for the playlist. Click ÒOK.Ó
Create Auto Playlist:
- Click ÒNow Playing ListÓ at the right of the screen, ÒNew List,Ó and ÒAuto Play List.Ó
- Click in the box to the left of ÒAuto Playlist NameÓ and type a name for the playlist.
- Click the green arrow to the left of ÒClick here to add new criteria.Ó A drop down box will appear. Click the desired option to be used to create the playlist. For example to make a playlist of one artist, click ÒAlbum Artist.Ó
- Click the underlined word to the left of the category selected. A drop down box will appear with a list of options. Click the desired option. If there are more underlined words, click them. Make the selection from the drop down box.
- Continue to click the green arrows to add criteria for the auto playlist. To remove a selection, click it and click ÒRemoveÓ in the bottom left of the window.
- When finished, click ÒOKÓ
- Click ÒNew Playlist,Ó ÒSave Playlist As,Ó click in the File Name box and type a name for the playlist. Click ÒOK.Ó
Sort Playlist:
- Click the Playlist name. Then click ÒSort.Ó A list of choices will appear. Click the desired category to be used to organize the Playlist.
To Edit a Playlist:
- Click the name of the list that is currently playing, ÒEdit Playlist,Ó click the name of the playlist to be edited.
- Edit the playlist as desired. When finished, click the name of the playlist. Click ÒSave PlaylistÓ to save the changes made.
Listen to a Playlist:
- Click ÒMy PlaylistsÓ in the column at the left of the screen. Double click the name of the desired playlist to be played. The list of names on the selected playlist will automatically appear in the center of the screen. The first song will start playing. To select additional songs, double click the name of each.
Library Tips:
- Click the arrow to the left of ÒAll MusicÓ in the column at the left. A list of categories will be displayed below ÒAll Music.Ó Double click the desired category. A list of items under that category will be displayed in the center of the screen. Double click the desired item. A list of songs will be displayed that fit the selection made. To play a song, double click the name of the desired song.
Burn a CD:
- Open Windows Media Player. (See above) If all the songs to be burned come from the same CD, continue to the next step. If songs from several CDÕs are going to be burned, make a playlist with the desired songs. (see above)
- Click the ÒBurnÓ tab in the tool bar.
- Click the arrow to the left of ÒBurn List.Ó All the CDÕs and playlists in Windows Media Player will be displayed. Click the desired selection to be burned.
- If there are songs on the playlist that are not desired, click the ÒEdit PlaylistÓ button. Click the blue drop down arrows below ÒView Library by.Ó A list of ways to organize the library will appear. Any view can be chosen, but for now click ÒArtist/Album.Ó
- To add a song to be burned, click the folder name, the CD that the song is on, and the name of the song. To close one folder so that others can be viewed more easily, click the name of the folder.
- To remove a song from the list of songs to be burned, click the name of the song in the right box. Then click the red ÒXÓ below the box. Be aware that adding or deleting songs from this list does not delete the songs from the library or the playlist that they are in.
- To change the order of the songs to be burned, click the name of the song and hold down the mouse button. Drag the song to the desired location and release the mouse button. Or Click the name of the song. Then click the up or down arrow below the box to move the song.
- To hear any song that is listed, right click the name of the song and click ÒPlay.Ó
- When finished click ÒOK.Ó The chosen songs will be displayed with a green checkmark in the box to the left of each song name. To remove a song from being burned, click that box to remove the checkmark.
- Insert a blank CD-R into the CD-ROM drive and click ÒStart BurnÓ at the upper left. Before the tracks are copied to the CD, they are checked and converted to a file type for the CD. This process may take several minutes. Then the CD will be burned. To stop a CD from being burned, click ÒStop Burn.Ó
- Do not play the CD while burning it or perform any other actions because the Player could stop functioning. After a CD has been burned, it is not possible to add additional songs in the future. As the CD is burned, the percentage of songs burned will be displayed as well as an estimate of how long it will take to burn the rest of the CD.
- If a window appears saying something like, ÒWindows Media Player cannot burn 7 files to the Cd. To investigate the problem, right-click each file, and click Error Details. Do you want to continue burning the other files?Ó Click ÒYes.Ó Then follow the directions. To get the CD to burn, remove songs with an error. (See above instruction on removing songs from a list.) Then click ÒStart BurnÓ again.
- If ÒWill not fitÓ appears in the status column in the ÒMusic to CopyÓ pane for selected tracks, the tracks are not copied to the CD. Will not fit will appear even if there are exactly 74 or 80 minutes of audio selected, because the Player inserts seconds (spaces) between the tracks that it burns onto a CD.
