Sample POOR Reflection of Science Inquiry and Use of a Learning Cycle

Poor lesson selection, Poor Lesson Plan, Poor instructional quality, Poor understanding of science, Fair reflection, poor writing.

In this reflection I taught about the facts on planets and stars. In Clinical II this was what our theme was based on in order to understand the basics of planets and stars. I was hoping during this lesson that the students would understand that a sky is made up of stars and planets and stars along with the facts.

I had started out by making decorative fact sheets with the planet names and having facts on the back for them to go to and look for references at anytime.

By conducting this lesson I provided them with sheets that have star names on them as well as planet names. The students that are “Stars” will be give star names as well. I have also introduced the Big and Little Dipper. ( noticed with I was teaching that the students understood what I was teaching them about the planets, but me as a teacher I noticed I needed to maybe make it more personal to them with life experiences. Also, reflecting on this the student learned more when I had visuals in order for them to look at to see and better understand. I had made a poster with the Big Dipper on it and read them some facts that went along with the Big Dipper. (7 main stars, 4 that are the brightest, etc.)

After the lesson the students followed through with making a constellation as a class. As they are making the constellation, they are adding planet names to it as well. The assessment was observing them and seeing what participation was giving forth to the activity by each student. This gave me information that the students understood what I wanted them to know about planets and stars.
