Overview

The DIBELS measures were designed to assess five early literacy components:

1. Phonological Awareness,
2. Alphabetic Principle,
3. Vocabulary,
4. Comprehension, and
5. Fluency with Connected Text.

The DIBELS measures link together to form an assessment system of early literacy.

Critics claim its weakness is its major focus on word attack skills at the expense of comprehension.
